Project Description
Environmental Leadership in the 21st Century encourages Amherst and other undergraduates from the Five Colleges (Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst) to become dynamic and effective environmental leaders. The project includes a ten-day intensive workshop during Interterm in January; trips to the Annual Clean Energy Connections Conference and Opportunity Fair in Springfield, Massachusetts and to Power Shift, a national conference in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Energy Action Coalition; and a summer internship project in collaboration with local environmental organizations. The program seeks to develop capable environmental leaders with strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to mobilize others to action, to improve the articulation between the academic and co-curricular programs on the Five College campuses, and to strengthen partnerships among the colleges, their students, and local and national environmental organizations.
