About the Network
Following graduation from college, Thoreau Scholars are inducted into our alumni association – the Henry David Thoreau Society for the Environment. Whether researching whale behavior in Iceland, tracking the bushmeat crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, conducting geological studies in the Gobi Desert, crafting environmental policy in Texas, or creating urban planning designs in New York City, our alumni are orchestrating impressive research, engaging in scholarly collaboration, and shaping environmental outcomes across the globe.
As members of this lifelong association, our alumni remain connected and keep up with their fellow Thoreau Scholars, providing opportunities for environmental networking and idea exchange among all Thoreau Scholars, past and present.
Meet Our Scholars
Weather is beautiful. To gaze at the Northern Lights, to stand inside the eyewall of a hurricane, to smell a storm, to see a wildfire create its own thunderstorm. . . . I wish people spent more time looking up instead of down at their cell phones.
